The face behind the vision and what Kenako is all about…
Meet Kent
Founder, Therapy Assistant, Coach & Personal Trainer of Kenako
It’s a pleasure to have you here.
I understand how challenging it can be to start a fitness and wellbeing journey—or support someone through theirs. That’s why I created Kenako: to be the bridge that helps people continue progressing towards their goals, whatever their needs may be.
With:
• 15+ years of gymnastics coaching experience
• 10+ years as a personal trainer
• 10+ years managing sports club and school PE programs
• 10+ years supporting people in the special needs and disability sectors as both a support worker and personal trainer
Along with extensive knowledge in child and teen development—and experience as a proud father of two amazing daughters—I’m passionate about helping people move, grow, and thrive.
If you'd like it to feel more professional, more personal, or more inspiring, I can tailor the tone further.
Getting to know me a bit more
Born in Durban, South Africa, I grew up in a very sporty family, with relatives competing in soccer, athletics, and rugby at recreational, state, national, and international levels. Choosing a different path, I was introduced to gymnastics by my best friend and quickly developed a lifelong passion for the sport.
My competitive gymnastics career spanned over 25 years and included representing Australia at two Commonwealth Games, multiple World Cups, and major international events. I was also a reserve team member for several World Championships and a National Squad member from 2008 to 2018. This experience naturally led me to develop a passion for coaching.
From 2006 to 2012, I coached recreational gymnastics at the State Gymnastics Centre in Prahran, progressing to coaching ALP MAG and WAG athletes from Level 4 through to Junior and Senior International levels. In 2013, I joined Skylark Sports in Mount Waverley, coaching Acrobatics, WAG, Tumbling, Ninja, KinderGYM, Adult classes, and NinjaSquad. I later became Program Manager for Tumbling (2014–2020) and WAG (2016–2020).
In 2020, I moved to Kids in Motion, where I coached movement-based classes focused on developing strong fundamentals in sports. Working within their special needs program strengthened my passion for supporting this community. During this time, I completed my Certificate III and IV in Assistance Therapy, contributed to the leadership team, and helped improve onboarding systems and facility spaces.
In 2022, I founded Kenako with just four weekly sessions. As demand grew, I left Kids in Motion in 2023 to focus on Kenako full-time. Today, I work with more than 30 families and adults fortnightly. They have become a significant part of my life and have helped create the incredible community that Kenako is today.
“Everybody is special and unique, it’s not about being the same, it’s about finding the best way that works for you so that you can be the best version of you.”
- Kent
“Kent is kind, patient and incredibly thoughtful in the way he works. He brings a calm and approachable energy that makes a real difference, especially on challenging days. He has a great ability to motivate Peter to get out, stay active and engage with the world around him. If something isn’t working, Kent doesn’t push back; he adapts, offering new ideas and activities that keep things moving in a positive direction. He’s someone you can rely on, both for practical support and for steady, reassuring conversations when things feel tough.”
— Effie T.Testimonials
“Kent has been an amazing support for my son following his stroke. Kent is professional, approachable, and easy to communicate with. He consistently goes above and beyond to support my son and has worked tirelessly to help him regain his independence and confidence. We've seen significant progress since Kent started working with him, and we truly appreciate the care, commitment, and encouragement he brings to every session.”
— Jenny A.Kent is truly one of a kind. He worked primarily with our daughter on emotional regulation, movement planning and body awareness — but somehow managed to weave our son into sessions too, keeping them both engaged and on track at the same time, which is no small feat. What struck me most was how he did it: through play, movement and games that felt fun but were clearly purposeful. He has this rare ability to connect with kids in a way that makes them want to show up and try. The progress our daughter made was beyond what I thought possible. Not vague, general improvement — real, specific skills I genuinely didn't think she'd be able to do. She learned to plan her movements, take safe risks, and use her body in ways that helped her regulate. Watching her build her confidence with his sessions was really amazing! We couldn't recommend Kent highly enough.
